If you are like many I know (and love), you're probably overwhelmed with taking care of (your) business...you know, working to put food on the table, getting kids to school, going to school yourself, taking care of your elderly parents/grandparents, and giving (all) your money to "bill".
You also don't have time to watch the news, keep in touch with your legislators, governor, and other leaders, and anyone else making decisions for you. Here's the thing...in order to introduce change, we need to be informed and one way to do this is to ask questions. Hear a rumor about rate increases (power, water, phone, taxes, etc.), furloughs, across the board raises (I wish), and anything else that may frustrate or excite you? Take a few minutes to check the news, call your senator, governor, or whomever is heading the organization/action.
Ask questions. Going directly to the source is one way. Checking the news is a start, but don't make it a habit to take what the media says as "truth". Everyone speaks and believes based on their own perspective, even the media. Ask questions and share your concerns. You may not get what you want, but you can start the actions we need to move up and out. Ask questions.

Beginnings
Life is hard...and most likely, you have your own story to share. Every decision made by others, especially our leaders, affect the quality of life we enjoy. And, you know what? It kinda smells right now.
This blog is my contribution to my island, my home, and the mission of becoming the paradise we know it to be. Opinions posted here by me and readers are just that...opinions. Do they matter? Hell, yes!! As citizens we have an undeniable responsibility to make things best for ourselves, our families, our community.
Our island is not the paradise it should be. We don't have the leadership nor the quality of life we deserve. Do you agree? Share your story and tell us what you are doing to make things better for you, your family, your community. We especially want to hear your suggestions on how we can move Guam in a direction that benefits its entire citizenship, not just the few and privileged.
What is paradise? "Paradise is an idealized place in which existence is positive, harmonious and timeless. It is conceptually a counter-image of the miseries of human civilization, and in paradise there is only peace, prosperity, and happiness. Paradise is a place of contentment, but it is not necessarily a land of luxury and idleness." - Wikipedia.com
What is a leader? More importantly, what makes a good and great leader? "A person or thing that leads or conducts; a guide; a conductor. Especially: One who goes first. One having authority to direct; a chief; a commander. (music) A performer who leads a band or choir in music; also, in an orchestra, the principal violinist; the one who plays at the head of the first violins." - wiktionary.com
Surprise! You don't have to have a position title to be a great leader!! Did you know this? Parents are leaders! Grandma and grandpa are leaders! Big sister is a leader! The bus driver is a leader! The postman is a leader! You are a leader! According to entrepreneur.com the five key traits of a good leader are:
VISION...What are the possibilities? How do you see our island in 5 years? in 10?
PASSION...What do you care about most? Direct your energy to that cause.
GREAT DECISION-MAKER...learn and learn, practice and practice, share and share
TEAM BUILDER...Get together with those who share your vision and passion, ask them to join your cause.
CHARACTER...Your true character comes out based on choices you make in the midst of adversity. Do you stay and fight or run and hide?

Let's begin by recognizing our individual, yet vital, role in our community and engaging in shared dialogue and valuable discussion. This is an important step. First, we have to bring the real problems, the "undiscussables", to the table...then, we formulate strategic plans as to how we help our appointed leaders and ourselves bring about much needed change.
What does it take? It takes you and me to make things best. Don't settle for less. Let's tackle this worthy cause TOGETHER. Remember,
PEACE! PROSPERITY! HAPPINESS!
Chamorro, Filipino, Asian, Micronesian...and everyone who calls Guam home. You're up!
